Rock ‘n Roll is 52 years old this year. "Sam's Jams"is a weekly tour of the greatest Rock, its siblings and cousins, together in one place, at one time, conjuring up memories, pleasantly surprising and delighting listeners from 20 to 70! Rock has many roots, even more branches; we excite three generations of music lovers with joyful surprising mass-appeal audience-grabbing music.
The core: 60s, 70s, and 80s Rock FM hits, some Top 40, and favorite deeper album tracks from every era of Rock and from all the related spin-off’s and cousins: blues, R&B, the rockin’ side of country, alternative, beach, Southern, reggae, art rock, folk rock, jam, jazz rock, glam, punk, and more. Not including any era’s “Heavy Metal” or “bubble-gum,” easy and fun to listen to, The Natural is adventurous, hip, familiar, never burned, always exciting. It’s immediately familiar and also rediscovered forgotten “oh-wow” “driveway moment” music. Segues are key. Tracks go together for good reason: they work musically or via common messages, genres, juxtapositions, artists’ evolutions, etc. We play 90s, 00s, and new music because: (a) there’s a lot of great new music being written and released today that’s very attractive to Boomers and X-Gens; and (b) we also want the younger demos of which there are a surprising number who not only want new music but are hip enough to dig the great “old stuff” too. We’ll play image surprises from Louis Armstrong to the Bonzo Dog Band. Joe Turner and Lavern Baker at one end; John Mayer and Sheryl Crow at the other. Ray Charles and The Stones forever. The hip and fun off-beat melds in with the familiar. It’s all fun.
The greatest days of radio, especially great Rock Radio featured formats and music that actually brought people together, no color barriers, no age barriers, just fun. Given the sad state of most modern commercial radio as it has evolved in the last two decades, “Sam's Jams” is a fresh breeze. |
